The newest sensation on Shonen Jump+, Mayori Academy (known in Japan as Mayori no Gakkou), has just dropped its latest chapter! Created by the brilliantly talented Tatsu Murakoshi, the manga launched in mid-August 2026 and has quickly gathered a dedicated, rapidly growing fanbase thanks to its unique blend of supernatural school life, breathtaking action, and deep emotional drama. For fans of gripping manga narratives, this is the series to watch. Check out our comprehensive Manga News section for more updates on emerging titles.
What is Mayori Academy About?
For those who haven't picked it up yet, Mayori Academy follows the story of Sagume, a young protagonist trying to navigate her transition into a mysterious new environment—an academy exclusively for extraordinary individuals known as "Mayori."
In the lore of the series, a "Mayori" is an individual born with an innate connection to the spiritual leylines of the earth, granting them access to bizarre and often terrifying supernatural abilities. The academy is nestled deep within a hidden, constantly shifting mountain range, serving as both a sanctuary and a rigorous training ground. The students are tasked with mastering their abilities to protect the human realm from monstrous entities known as the "Hollowed"—corrupted spirits that feast on negative human emotions.
While it shares some DNA with classic supernatural school series, readers have praised the manga for its distinct pacing, intriguing mysteries, and beautiful, highly detailed character designs. Murakoshi’s art style heavily features striking contrasts and fluid combat choreography, making every action scene a visual feast.
Characters and Rivalries
The supporting cast is equally compelling. We have characters like Renji, a hot-headed prodigy with the ability to manipulate kinetic energy, and Shiro, a stoic, mysterious upperclassman whose powers remain completely unknown. The dynamic between Sagume and her peers is fraught with tension, rivalry, and a slowly building sense of camaraderie. The academy itself is divided into distinct dormitories based on the nature of a student's power, leading to intense inter-dorm competitions and political maneuvering among the academy's enigmatic instructors.
The latest chapter dives even deeper into the lore of the academy and the true nature of the Mayori, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what comes next. Without giving too much away, Sagume uncovers a hidden archive detailing the history of the First Mayori, suggesting that the academy’s founders may have had much darker intentions than originally presented. This revelation flips the established narrative on its head, adding a layer of psychological thriller to the action-packed story.
